The Food and Drug
Administration (FDA) has reported the death of a 40 year old man. She has
assigned to an overconsumption of chewing gum energising. An extreme case,
without doubt. There prevents that from 1.2 g per day the body is exposed to
certain hazards. And if we consume coffee, cola, energy drinks and chocolate in
large quantity, we can achieve this rate.
In large quantity?
"If, sincae January 2013, industrialists are required to indicate the
presence of caffeine in their products, they are not obliged to mention the
quantity!" deplores Florence Rossi-Pacini .
For it, the danger lies mainly
in the consumption of energy drinks, appreciated by the young people, who
associate often with alcohol. A combination really harmful. "Caffeine and
alcohol have effects of diuretics. The consume whole contains a risk of
dehydration", explains the specialist. "And these drinks is very
sweet, they consume with disconcerting ease, or the danger!"
Cardiac Disorders
The caffeine has in
fact the defects of its qualities. To small dose, it is stimulating and
increases the vigilance and the ability of concentration. In too great
quantity, it can cause sleep disorders, gastric irritation, increase in blood
pressure, tachycardia or even stress and anxiety. "In people with risk
factors (diabetes, fragile people of the court), it may cause cardiac
disorders", warns in addition Florence Rossi-Pacini .
Caffeine is not a
harmless product. If the death of this American remains an exceptional case, it
must alert on the risks of this "drug" widely consumed in the world.
And it shows that we are not all equal before its effects.
